Most therapies concentrate on finding out lots of detail about what is wrong, in order to remove it. I work using a Solution Focused Brief Therapy which is a little different. It is about identifying how you want to be able to respond, noticing what you are already doing that’s working and focusing on doing more of what is working well. It is forward thinking rather than backwards looking.
It is called brief therapy because progress in achieving your goals is usually shorter than other approaches. Once you feel you are back on track, therapy is over. With Solution Focused Brief therapy you do not have to commit to a set number of sessions in advance, you decide appointment by appointment if you feel another meeting would be helpful and how often that is. It will always be up to you.
